Your neck is an important part of your body that can carry a lot of tension and stress. Neck pain is a common complaint among many people, especially those who sit for long hours in front of a computer or engage in repetitive movements. However, there are simple neck stretches that you can do to relieve tension and improve flexibility.

Here are some easy stretches that you can incorporate into your daily routine:

Side-to-Side Neck Stretch

Start by sitting up straight and slowly tilting your head to the right, so that your right ear touches your right shoulder. Hold for 10-15 seconds and then return to the centre. Repeat on the left side. This stretch helps to relieve tension in the neck and shoulders.

Chin-to-Chest Stretch

Sit up straight and slowly lower your chin towards your chest, stretching the back of your neck. Hold for 10-15 seconds and then slowly lift your head back up. This stretch helps to relieve tension in the upper back and neck.

Seated Twist

Sit up straight with your feet flat on the ground. Slowly turn your head to the right and place your left hand on the outside of your right knee. Hold for 10-15 seconds and then repeat on the other side. This stretch helps to relieve tension in the neck, shoulders, and upper back.

Shoulder Shrugs

Sit up straight and lift your shoulders up towards your ears. Hold for a few seconds and then relax your shoulders down. This stretch helps to relieve tension in the neck and shoulders.

Ear-to-Shoulder Stretch

Sit up straight and slowly tilt your head to the right, so that your right ear touches your right shoulder. Hold for 10-15 seconds and then return to the centre. Repeat on the left side. This stretch helps to relieve tension in the neck and shoulders.

It’s important to remember to breathe deeply and relax your body while stretching. Don’t force any movement and if you feel pain, stop immediately and don’t hesitate to contact one of our chiropractors for an assessment, treatment and relief. Incorporating these simple neck stretches into your daily routine can help to relieve tension and improve flexibility in the neck and shoulders.
